In 2024, after years of reflection on his film, Sébastien Lagrevol finally threw himself into the making of Ombilicus, his new short film, following numerous and varied experiences in filmmaking. A shoot with almost no budget, using whatever resources were available and the creative solidarity of the Saint-Étienne community.
Close to MILKILO, the late Saint-Étienne noise rock duo, for whom he had already directed the music video for Waiver, he asked them to compose the music that would accompany the images of the almost silent film.
After a brief stint on another short film that has yet to see the light of day ("Créature", composed in collaboration with Flora Francescut) and some computer-aided music experimentation during COVID, MILKILO fully embraced his mission, composing with a duo on Ableton, heavily relying on reverb and distortion plugins, to put themself entirely at the service of the images.
After composing directly on the editing bench, the various movements that accompany the film's acts were reworked for the record, creating versions more suited to listening alone. The mastering was entrusted to SubmarineFM.
Although this offering remains a distinctly different piece in the band's discography, reunited for the occasion, dedicated listeners will still recognize the band's signature style in these tense melodies and the abundant use of effects.
